Thailand's military coup in 2006 ignited a political maelstrom that polarized a tolerant Buddhist society, turning the streets of Bangkok into a battlefield. The gratuitous violence dominated the headlines for four years, as the world witnessed the countless lives lost and maimed. This documentary follows the lives of two women, who stand on opposing sides of the conflict but share a common fate. A husband killed in a grenade attack against the yellow-shirts faction, and a son gunned down in a military crackdown against the red-shirts protesters. HERO is a story of courage in the face of despair, truth in the light of Buddha, and a divided country that is united in its grief.
